You will be making a template, layering wool roving or batts around the template, adding warm, soapy water, and then doing lots of rubbing, patting, and rolling. The warm water opens the scales on the fiber, and the friction applied causes the fiber to felt, creating a lovely and durable fabric.
No felting needles and no knitting is involved in this type of felting, and no experience is required to have a great time creating a unique felted purse.

Spring Goat Shearing Day at Alpaca Meadows

Come watch our Angora goats get their bi-annual haircuts at Alpaca Meadows!
Sarah Karr will be at Alpaca Meadows to shear our Angora goats Mike, Ike, and Lola. Visitors are welcome to come watch the process, which can be fascinating to see. Shearing Angora goats can be a bit of a challenge due to their wrinkled skin and heavy coats of fiber.
Shearing will begin at 1pm.
Angora goats produce the beautiful, lustrous fiber known as mohair, sometimes called the “Diamond Fiber” because of its exceptional durability and brilliant luster. Angora goats may be among the most efficient fiber producers on earth. Despite the name, Angora goats produce mohair, not Angora hair — only rabbits produce Angora fiber.
While you’re here you can:
• Watch the goat shearing
• Meet the alpacas, goats, and chickens
• Visit the Alpaca Meadows Farm Store
• Shop our Shearing Day Specials table
