Richland Academy of the Arts, through a community engagement initiative developed by The Ohio State University at Mansfield, is hosting free guitar lessons this summer led by community volunteers, including some of the region’s top guitar players! The Community Guitar Workshop is a free, welcoming space to pick up a guitar and start playing. Whether you’ve never touched an instrument or already know a few chords, you’ll learn through live demonstrations, guided practice, and a casual Q&A setting designed to keep things relaxed and fun. Extra guitars will be available for anyone who wants to borrow one during class.
Each session stands on its own, so you can drop in whenever it works for you.
Each session features a different instructor, giving participants the chance to learn from a variety of music styles, so every class feels fresh, engaging, and inspiring.

The Christmas Bird Count is an annual tradition where participants count all the birds within a 15 mile diameter circle centered on the Gorman Nature Center. Territories are usually all reserved by those who have done them in the past, but you can still turn in your backyard feeder list! You can pick up a feeder watcher summary sheet at the Nature Center front desk. Please turn in your feeder sheet to Luke Donahue at ldonahue@richlandcountyoh.gov or deliver it to the Gorman Nature Center. Call 419-884-3764 with questions.

From 12 PM to 4 PM on Saturday, July 4, join our Charles Mill Lake-wide poker run! Build the best (or worst) poker hand to win prize money.
All poker run stops will be on Charles Mill Lake, so a boat is required. Rental boats, including pontoons, our fishing boat and kayaks are available from the marina.
The cost of entry is $10 per participant (there can be multiple participants on one boat). Space will be limited so we recommend purchasing your ticket before the event.
Details:
– The poker run will start at 12:00 PM and end at 4:00 PM.
– Each player receives one card at each poker run stop. The card given to each player will be recorded at each stop to avoid hands being combined.
-The winning hand will be determined according to standard poker rules.
What’s the Prize?
The BEST poker hand returned to the marina by 5:00 PM on Sunday, July 5 will receive 75% of the total prize money pot.
The WORST poker hand returned to the marina by 5:00 PM on Sunday, July 5 will receive 25% of the total prize money pot.
